Update!

Just thought I had better put an update on here on the fam. Declan is still up at the hospital. It has been just over two weeks now but they told us to not plan on having him home until his due date which is not until July 9th. He is doing awesome though. He needs to eat 64mLs per meal for 24 hours straight and get off of his oxygen before he can come home. He has been on and off the oxygen for a couple of days now and we are hoping he will be off it for good in the next day or so. He also ate 5 full meals in a row yesterday (he needs to do 8) but I think he got a lazy nurse who would rather gavage (tube feed) then take the time to help him eat and so he didn't finish his meals through the night and had to start over. He's doing awesome though and we are ready to have him home!

Declan Dean

So we got a little surprise on Sunday! Last Thursday I went into the doctor and the NST showed that I was having some regular contractions so the doc checked me and I was dilated to a 4. He told me that we could expect to have a baby in 1-2 weeks so I went home and was just taking it easy trying to keep him in there as long as possible. Then on Sunday during sacrament meeting I started having some pretty painful contractions (the ones before hadn't been painful) so we skipped out on sunday school and relief society and headed home to lay down. After another hour of contractions I called the hospital to see what they recommended and they told me to come in so they could check and see what the baby was doing. Well we got there at about 11:30 and I was dilated to a 6 so they just hooked me up to some moniters and waited to see if I had any changes in dilation. After about an hour I was in pretty severe pain so they gave me an IV and put in some pain killers to help with the contractions but when they checked me a couple of hours later I still hadn't changed at all. Dr Leavitt decided that even though I hadn't changed that I was in actual labor and broke my water to get things moving along. Thank goodness for that because I was finally able to get an epidural and man do I love that thing! We went into the OR at 10 and Declan was born at 10:31PM. He was 8lbs 12oz and 21 1/2 in long. He was 4 1/2 weeks early! They took him immediately into the NICU and started working on him because he was having trouble breathing. He was hooked up to a C pap which forces oxygen down his nose to keep his lungs inflated and had a tube put down his throat to help release air. He was also given an IV to help with low blood sugar (and later for antibiotics and feeding). They were able to take him off the C pap yesterday and remove the tube from his mouth so now he just has the nasal canula and the IV in. He started bottle feeding today and we were able to hold him for the first time which was amazing. We don't know how long he will be in there but he is doing really well and we just love having him with us and can't wait to bring him home!

Potty Time!

I'm so excited! Carson has used his potty twice this week! I bought him a potty a couple of months ago just so that he could get used to it and kind of get an idea of what it is for. We haven't really tried to get him to use it at all and then the day before yesterday I got him out of the bath and set him up on the counter to brush his teeth and he said, "Mommy, potty." So I took him down and set him on his potty and he peed! It was so exciting! Then today I set him on the potty after I got him out of the bath I set him on it and he did it again. And he gets so excited. The potty that I got him cheers and sings for him when he goes. He got up when he was done and started dancing to it. It was so cute. So I guess that he is ready to start potty training. Maybe we will only have to buy one set of diapers pretty soon which would be sweet! He's just getting so old... Love my little guy!

Holy Moly!!

So I thought that this kid was big before. I had no idea. We went in and got another growth ultrasound on Thursday and he is weighing in at 6lbs 13oz!!!! He gained over a pound and a half in 2 weeks! I mean the boys in my family like to eat, but jeez! His head and spine are measuring in at 36 weeks, his belly is at 38 weeks, and his legs are at 34 weeks. Once again he will be just like his daddy! So now I'm really anxious to go and see the high risk specialists to see if we can get permission to have him in 3 weeks instead of 5. Either way I just want to know for sure so I can stop worrying about it and just have it be a fact! But anyway we got the cutest picture of him on the ultrasound. He looks exactly like Carson! I love it! He's got cheeks like he is a couple of months old and I am just so excited for him to get here! And here are a couple of pictures of my hugeness for all to enjoy ;D

HUGENESS

So we had our 32 week checkup and ultrasound yesterday and it was kind of a lot of bad news. Don't worry, the baby is healthy as far as we can tell! This is my dilemma. At 32 weeks the average weight of a baby is 3.75 lbs. Well not for my little guy. He is currently weighing in at a whopping 5lbs 4oz!! HOLY CRAP! Not only that, but apparently I also have a ton of extra amniotic fluid. So I asked the doctor about delivering him earlier than planned (we were already set to go a week early) and I found out that because of new hospital policy in IF and because of my diabetes the hospital will absolutely not let me deliver before 39 weeks!! Apparently huge baby isn't enough of a reason. I'm sure a male made this rule! Dr. Leavitt said that he would deliver me at 37 weeks so I have to go to a high risk doctor from Salt Lake to see if I can get permission to deliver early. I am also now set to go into the doctor twice every week for NST's and will have an ultrasound ultrasound every 2 weeks up to delivery! So that is why I am so huge. Other than that we are all doing well, just hoping that we will be able to get things moving along. Anyways, here are a couple of more recent pics of Carson, none of me yet but maybe I will eventually get one up before he's born :)

Picture this

No sorry this is not an actual picture. Instead it is a mental picture for all to enjoy. I was heading out to my mom's house today and bundled Carson and myself up (bundled being coats) and headed outside. It has been steadily raining all day and was still as I shut my door to leave. So I went to get in my jeep and it was locked so I went to get my keys to unlock it and I didn't have them! I was locked out of my car and my house. So, plan A, I went to get our spare key from above the garage and it was gone. I was going to just call my mom and have her come pick me up, but with the rain and all I didn't want my babe to have to wait outside in the cold. Luckily I was doing laundry today so our back window was open (there is a reason for this but it's not really relevant to this story...). Anyway, so I open the window as wide as it goes, which is a little over a foot, lay my coat over the windowsill and lower Carson into the house. Then with all the gumf I can manage I lift my huge, and I promise you I am huge, self into the window to the laundry room and onto a huge pile of crap and baby and retrieved my keys to get out and onto my day. Someday I am going to actually have a planned adventure that I am going to love and enjoy. Until then, I am just going to continue having my own!

Big Times

For anyone who has ever been preggo, you know how sometimes you just feel huge?! Well I have been feeling that way for about 3 weeks now and I went in to my OB appt today for my 27 week checkup and I am measuring in at 28 1/2 weeks! I have been measuring right on to my due date up until this point and I now know that I am going to have another huge baby. I just keep telling myself that this means that I will get to have him earlier than anticipated, but shoot, it HURTS!! Oh well though, there is nothing I can do. Also we have picked out a name for the little sucker. He will be Declan Dean. It is so much better than just calling him baby all the time. Anyway just a little a little update on my life right now! Cheers!
